In Case You Didn't Know . . .

This xanga account is pretty much defunct. Who uses Xanga anymore, anyway? It's all about the Facebook, the MySpace.

I'm now blogging at

What a day!

So, I've played my cello for 11.5 hours today.  Yes, ELEVEN AND A HALF.  No wonder my body hurts.

11--Quintet Rehearsal
12--practice for Chamber
1-3--Chamber
3--practice for lesson
4--lesson
5-7--break (I ate dinner, got the Pit Treats ready, and took a 20 minute nap)
7:30-10:30--Die Fledermaus
11-1:30am--recording session

Um, I think that's 11.5 anyway.  My brain shut down sometime during the second or third act of the opera.

The recording session was especially exciting because we were all so loopy from exhaustion.  I bet the recording guys were VERY excited to work with us.  Well, we each made $25 out of the deal, plus earned two tracks on a charity CD.

Anybody know a good masseuse?

My DVD Collection

I thought you might all be interested to know what's in my meager DVD library.

I'm probably wrong, but nevertheless:

10 Things I Hate About You
Babe
The Beatles Unauthorized Documentary
Bernard Greenhouse at Wigmore Hall
Chicken Run
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Dead Poets' Society
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
King of the Hill Season 1
Monsters, Inc.
The Muppets Take Manhattan
The Princess Diaries
The Simpsons Season 1
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 1
Together (Chinese film)
Turbo Jam: 5 Rockin' Workouts
Wit
Mahler Symphony No. 2: Resurrection

I think that pretty well sums me up, actually.  Lighthearted, serious, intellectual, satirical, juvenile, depressing, cute . . .

The ecclecticism of Rachel

Dear  Alison and Jeanette,

So, I felt pretty well-rounded this weekend.  Friday evening I went to a cello recital wherein I heard Schubert, Prokofiev, and Handel.  After that, I played in a cello ensemble: Metallica's "Unforgiven" as arranged by Apocalyptica, jammed out to the sweet sounds of the Dixieland band's "When the Saints Go Marchin' In" (falling in love with Chris Wilson), and then promptly picked up my Die Fledermaus part and played that.  After the concert, we went to Nate-dawgg's house, listening to James Brown, Maceo Parker, and various Brazilian music.  Saturday, I listened to Bjork in my room, changed to Brahms while I worked on the RS lesson, went to go practice my Debussy, Mendelssohn, and Popper, and then went to the break dance event where I saw some other "poppers."  And I loved every second of all of it.  I love myself.

Why is it that girls always fall for the same guy?  Being that I don't really have any crushes right now (amazing, I know), I've taken to finding out about everyone else's interests.  Every girl but one that I've talked to about it has a crush on the same guy in orchestra.  Frankly, I don't find him all that impressive, but he does talk to a lot of girls all the time--he must be a charmer, because they all seem to think that he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.  I find it depressing.  There will be way too many broken hearts on this one, especially since they probably all think that he's interested (at least in part), but as for me, I don't really see any strong interests on his part.  He's just a ladies' man is all.  Sigh.  I feel almost obligated to tell them all, "Don't bother with him!  He's not good enough for you!" but I know that they wouldn't listen or even want to listen.

We girls are so easily swayed by a charming smile and a friendly gesture.  I wonder if guys know how much power they have over our emotions.

In conclusion, I love you.

Dear Jeanette,

Well, today (I don't have class until Masterclass at 5 on Tuesdays) has thus far been a productive one: homework, laundry, attacking the dishes that were taking over our house (see photo), and setting up my new printer!  Yay!  After having updating the OS on my computer, my old printer was just not up to par.  And so, last week I was madly trying to print a stupid 2 page assignment ten minutes before my class started only to discover I only had nine cents on my signature card.  I hope Dr. Howard didn't mind the 9 point font . . . but anyway, we don't have to play that game anymore.

I'm enjoying hearing the saxophone stylings of all my favorite show tunes coming from somewhere nearby, Alpine perhaps?  I don't know who this person is, but I'm always tempted to bring Gus, follow the sound, and request a jam session.  Right now, I'm listening to "Part of That (Their? I forget) World" from the Little Mermaid.

Well, I love you.  Thanks for committing certain deeds with me on Saturday night.  I have it on good authority that the Sept. 3rd transaction was especially appreciated, as one of the parties involved (the jazz musician) had recently experienced a tough breakup.

You're pretty,
Rachel

p.s. If you're not Jeanette and you're reading this, leave me some comments!!  Sheesh.
